Cheese Biscuits Recipe

Makes ~14 biscuits

Ingredients

Biscuits:

  • 3 cups (430g) flour
  • 3 tsp (9g) baking powder
  • 1tbsp (14g) sugar
  • 1tsp (5g) salt
  • 3/4tsp (3g) cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup (113g) cold unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 (100g) cups of shredded sharp cheddar
  • 1 1/4 (340g) cups whole milk
  • 2-3 garlic cloves (minced)

Glaze:

  • 1/4 cup (57g) unsalted butter
  • A few pinches of fresh parsley
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)


Instructions

Dough

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F
  2. In a large-ish bowl combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar
  3. Cut up butter into smaller chunks, add to bowl, and with clean hands mash together with dry ingredients until you get crumbs
  4. Shred your block of cheddar and add it in
  5. Add in garlic
  6. Stir in milk. Dough should be uniformly moist (make sure there are no overly dry/wet spots)

Bake

  1. Grease baking trays
  2. With wet hands scoop out just under a handful of dough, roll into balls and space 2-3in apart lightly pressing down on top of ball
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden

Glaze

  1. Melt butter, add in parsley and garlic
  2. With a brush, apply mixture to biscuits
